Image of SN 1006 in the high energy band (1.5 keV), showing a power law
component (photon index 2.4) arising in two aegis or shield-like caps, close
to the shock front. These are positioned symmetrically about the centre of
the remnant in the NE and SW directions. Researchers at the University of
Leicester have suggested that the aegis are formed by relativistic electrons,
beamed from an unseen central object, interacting with the wound up magnetic
field in the post shock region.
