Introduction

The Leicester Database and Archive Service (LEDAS) is an easy to use on-line astronomical database and archive access service, dealing mainly with data from high energy astrophysics missions, but also providing full database functionality for over 200 astronomical catalogues from ground-based observations and space missions. The LEDAS also allows access to images, spectra and light curves in graphics, HDS and FITS formats, as well as access to raw and processed event data.

This document describes the services provided by the LEDAS. The two primary database query services, the command line interface (BROWSE) and the WWW interface (ARNIE), are explained, followed by detailed descriptions of each of the four primary, mission-based archives; the UK ASCA archive, the Chandra data archive mirror, the Ginga data archive and the ROSAT public data archive. The LEDAS interface to the Digitized Sky Survey is also outlined.

The best place to look for further information on the services, data and software provided by the LEDAS is on our Website, at http://www.ledas.ac.uk/ (see Section 2 for more details).
